How Can You Be Sure Of Your Videographer?
Choosing the right producer to create your business web video or TV commercial is one of the hardest parts of the whole process. Not all video producers measure up the same… there is a huge gap between a great videographer and a wannabe. Unfortunately it’s not a matter of choosing the quote that charges more because there are so many sub-quality producers out there that think they can pull off a project properly and try to charge highly for it.
There are a lot of great producers out there who charge very modestly if the job I relatively easy. So this makes choosing the right one rather difficult.
How do you pick the right one?
If you are going to spend the money and time on a great business video, then it’s worthwhile to do your research properly. If you skimp on this and take a roll of the dice with you producer you could end up with a costly nightmare on your hands.
The first obvious step is to check out their past work and take note of videos you like so you can get an idea of you may receive. The next step is to check out their reviews on their Google + page, and all other social media site they are on. Be sure to take note on the dates all the reviews have come in – a bunch of reviews clustered around a specific month or week is very suspicious. A linkedin profile often gives good honest results.
Make sure your quotes are carefully broken down and not some wild figure pulled out of thin air. When going through a breakdown of costs, don’t be afraid to ask questions, or to try and negotiate the price down.
A resourceful video producer will try and keep the costs down as low as possible by filming the footage themselves or only hiring one cameraman to operate everything. Remember: if a producer is trying to justify two or more camera crew then the quote is going to be large (it doesn’t have to be).
You can cut the price down by writing the script yourself, but if you do, keep it short and to the point. A good thing to remember is that one minute of video is around 200 words – it is not recommended to have a video longer than two minutes (ideally 30 seconds).
